Yesterday morning I woke up to a text message from a client of mine saying that her water broke and the midwife would be to her house in an hour. This was a first time mamma, so I decided I would try to get there when the midwife arrived or maybe even a little later. My last first time mamma was a 14 hour birth! Just as I was leaving my house, I got another text saying “getting real close. You on the way?” Yikes! This was NOT going to be another 14 hour birth! I told her I was on my way and would be there in 10 minutes. Luckily, even though I have a Traverse City address, I live up the Leelanau Peninsula and her house in Sutton’s Bay, Michigan is only 10 minutes up the road from mine.
When I arrived, she was laboring beautifully in her bedroom with so much wonderful support. Her husband, doula, midwife, and midwife apprentices were so supportive to this first time mamma. She progressed quickly and in no time her little man was born! Her mom, dad, and sister came over right away to meet the baby and watch the newborn exam. Bets were made for how much this little guy weighed and everybody guessed too high! So much joy and happiness in this house. Congratulations! Thank you so much for asking me to be there and photograph this amazing birth day. 🙂
